Lasting from Summer 2012 until early 2013, ITEG refurbished the 1D computational fluid dynamic program "Drust" for Vorarlberger Illwerke AG (VIW).
The program started as an in-house tool of VIW and uses FORTRAN-Modules written by Illwerke Engineers describing water hammers in surge chambers, turbines, pumps and pump turbines.
Based on these FORTRAN modules, VIW has been able to design some of the most innovative hydro power plants since the 1980ies, which are renowned for their utmost operational reliability.
The visualization of the calculation results involves the ITEG product TISGraph, which allows to render time dependent charts as well as parameter dependent characteristic curves.
The new version 2.0 of "Drust" allows to preserve decades of experience in a centralized database and to extend it further. Moreover, the collection of FORTRAN modules is improved in a way that allows yet another generation of highly specialized engineers to undertake state-of-the-art waterhammer simulations of new Illwerke schemes.
As a result of the successful cooperation of ITEG with the principal it was possible to implement even far reaching functionalities like rainflow-counting of fatigue damage spectrums in a user-friendly manner.
